Citizens Academy

The Citizens Academy is a free 12-week program designed to provide citizens who live and work in the city a unique opportunity to learn more about the Greenville Police Department (GPD). The academy features both a classroom setting, with presentations by GPD personnel from multiple divisions, and a variety of learning experiences outside the classroom.
Participants will gain firsthand knowledge about the inner workings of the department and see what officers and operators go through on a daily basis by visiting the communications center and participating in a ride-along with a GPD officer. The academy is offered annually March through May, and most classes are held at the GPD Training Center at 688 Mauldin Road.

After completion, Citizens Academy graduates are given the opportunity to join the Greenville Police Department's Citizens Academy Alumni Association in order to keep in contact with their classmates and the police department.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the 2018 Citizens Academy are:

  • GPD structure and operations
  • Court processes
  • Investigations
  • Police training simulator
  • Crime Prevention
  • Internal Affairs
  • Communications

....and many others!
