11/28/2017 - City Announces Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade Grand Marshal

The City of Greenville has selected Dr. Jimmy Ryan, a Greenville native who created the concept for Mice on Main, to serve as grand marshal for the 2017 Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade. Ryan will lead over 90 units in the annual parade scheduled for this Saturday, December 2 at 6 p.m. on Main Street.

“I am honored to be a part of this Greenville tradition,” said Dr. Ryan. “Greenville is such a great place to live, work and raise a family, and the parade symbolizes the thriving nature of the city as well as the Christmas spirit in our community. I can't think of a better way to kick-start the holiday season.”

As one of the first major art projects downtown, Ryan proposed Mice on Main as part of a high school senior class project and as a tribute to one of his favorite childhood stories, Goodnight Moon. The popular scavenger hunt features nine unique bronze mice hidden along five blocks of Main Street from the Hyatt Regency to the Westin Poinsett.

The one-mile parade route will stretch from Augusta Street to North Street on Main Street and feature musical marching groups, elaborately decorated floats and, of course, Santa Claus. The parade is free to the public and spectators will find ample places to view the parade, with prime seating located from the Main Street Bridge south toward Falls Park.

The parade can be viewed live on the City’s Facebook page and will be available for viewing the following week on the City’s YouTube channel. For more information about the Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade, visit events.greenvillesc.gov.
