A Revolutionary War hero and the source for the name Greenville, General Nathanael Greene is honored with a sculpture displayed at The Greenville News plaza. Greene led American troops in the South during the Revolutionary War and played a pivotal role in turning the tide in favor of the Patriots.

Although General Greene never lived in the local area, his significant role in the war warranted this honor. T.J. Dixon and James Nelson, a husband-and-wife sculpting team from San Diego, created the artwork.
