Fire Recruit Training
The Fire Department training facility located at 688 Mauldin Rd was built in 1972 and named in honor of former Fire Chief J.E. Poole. This facility is home to the Greenville City Fire Department’s Training Academy. The Fire Department
Training Officer, assisted by three Platoon Training Officers, conducts and coordinates all general fire department training. In addition, the Greenville City Fire Department’s Special Operations Teams also conducts advanced hazardous materials and rescue response training at this location.
Along with daily in-service training, the Training Academy conducts annual proficiency and competency training to meet professional standards and federal regulations. Each year a ten week recruit training course is conducted for newly sworn Firefighters. In addition to basic firefighting skills, the recruits receive additional certifications in medical first responder emergencies and operations level response in Hazmat and Rescue incidents.
The Fire Department training facility is also made available to other emergency services agencies in the upstate that may not have their own training facility.
