The Swamp Rabbit Trail continues along the Reedy River on the east side of River
Street in front of the RiverPlace development. RiverPlace is a public/private partnership
and the single largest development in the history of downtown Greenville. It features
restaurants, shops, condos, artist studios, a hotel, office space, a parking garage,
public restrooms and beautiful water features. The trail continues further into
Falls Park, with views of the upper and lower falls, numerous gardens and the Liberty
Bridge.
The $13.4 million gardens at Falls Park and Liberty Bridge were dedicated on September 10, 2004 by Mayor Knox H. White and City Council. After trail users cross a stone bridge at the lower end of the falls they have a choice between going left, down the stairs and along the river, or to bike/ walk along the lightly traveled Furman College Way (the choice for bicyclists). At the end of roadway (turn-around loop), the trail continues underneath Church Street, across a metal grate bridge and then under Cleveland Street into Cleveland Park. The section between Church Street and Cleveland Street is not part of the park system.
This trail and the Cleveland Park trails are shown on the 2008 Trails and Greenways Master Plan as the Reedy River Trail.
