The City of Greenville completed a 1-mile greenway west of downtown in 2007. This
multi-use greenway is a “rail to trail” conversion, situated on an old railroad
right of way. The trail is 12 feet wide and features both 8 feet of asphalt and
4 feet of a rubberized athletic surface for runners and walkers.
The trail begins underneath the Academy Street bridge at Linky Stone Children’s Garden and travels west along the Reedy River. Significant landmarks along the trail include The Kroc Center construction, TTR Bikes on Hudson Street and Mayberry Park. This trail was the first part of the Swamp Rabbit trail constructed in the City of Greenville and will connect the City to Furman University and Travelers Rest once that trail is completed.
Amenities found under Academy Street, at the trailhead, include bicycle racks, picnic tables and a water fountain. There is also a water fountain right off the trail at Mayberry Park. Mayberry Park restrooms have limited hours of operation.
To continue to the Riverwalk and Falls Park trails, trail users must use the sidewalks along Reedy View Drive or use the roadway itself and then cross over River Street in the designated crosswalk.
This trail is shown on the 2008 Trails and Greenways Master Plan as the CSX Trail.
