Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Greenville Athletics Department is looking for parent/volunteer coaches for all youth sports. If you are interested please contact the athletics office at 864-467-8010 or 864-467-8008.

Summer 2012 Youth Athletic Programs

The City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Department offers athletic programs for our youth. The ages of each program are specified below. The contact for all City of Greenville Athletic Programs is Robby Anders, 864-467-8011 or randers@greenvillesc.gov.

Tee Ball

This 8-week Tee Ball Program is for 4-5 year olds and teaches the participants the fundamentals of baseball. Participants may choose the Tuesday session, which meets at 5:45pm at Holmes Park or the Saturday session, which meets at 9:30am at the N. Main Rotary Park. The participants hit off of a tee and also learn how to effectively throw and catch a baseball, run the bases and understand the concept of player placement on the field. The first four weeks of the program are devoted to practices, while the final four weeks are geared to recreational games. Volunteer coaches are needed! The season concludes with a trophy presentation to each participant.

Tee Ball (4-5 year olds) Tuesdays

Location: Holmes Park Field
When: Tuesdays; May 29 – July 17 (8 weeks)
Time: 5:45 - 6:30 pm
Cost: $32.00 per person for residents and $40 per person for non-residents
Targeted Age: 4-5 year olds (Participants must be 4 years old at the time of registration.)

Location: North Main Rotary Park
When: Saturdays; June 2 – July 21 (8 weeks)
Time: 9:30-10:15 am
Cost: $32.00 per person for residents and $40 per person for non-residents
Targeted Age: 4-5 year olds (Participants must be 4 years old at the time of registration.)

Community Baseball

This 8-week Community Baseball Program is geared to kids within the community to come out and have fun learning the fundamentals of baseball while participating in an organized team setting. All participants are welcome to come play regardless of skill level. The season consists of practices and games and will conclude with a championship tournament. The practices and games are held at each of the city's Community Centers:

  • David Hellams Community Cener, 111 Spartanburg St., Greenville
  • Juanita Butler Community Center, 2 Burns St., Greenville
  • Nicholtown Community Center, 112 Rebecca St., Greenville
  • West Greenville Community Center, 8 Rochester St., Greenville
  • Bobby Pearse Community Center, 904 Townes St. Ext., Greenville
Community Baseball (6 - 8 year olds)

Location: Community Center fields, as listed above
When: Tuesdays; June 12 – July 31 (8 weeks)
Time: 6-7 pm
Cost: $10 per child
Targeted Age: 6-8 year olds

Community Baseball (9 - 12 year olds)

Instructional Disc Golf League

Location: Holmes Park Disc Golf Course
Dates: Saturdays, August 18 – October 6
Time: 11am – 1pm
Cost: Residents - $32; Non-Residents - $40
Targeted Age: 9-12 year olds

This exciting and fun Instructional Disc Golf League is for kids ages 9-12 years old and will meet on Saturdays at Holmes Park Disc Golf Course. This league is set up to introduce the sport of disc golf to youth and to provide individual instruction to each player, as well as have structured league play. Participants are asked to bring their own discs.

Tennis Fun Camps

Location: Sears Shelter at McPherson Park
Dates: Monday – Friday; June 25 – June 29; July 30 – August 3
Time: 7:30am – 1:00pm
Cost: Residents - $92; Non-Residents - $115
Targeted Age: 6-9 year olds

Tennis Fun Camp is a great way to introduce the basics of tennis to your child! These 5-day camps will be offered June 25 – 29 and July 30 – August 3. We will instruct the campers on the fundamentals of tennis, such as proper racket use, volley and how to serve the ball. The program will include personal instruction, drills, conditioning, play and group sessions as well as other fun activities. Campers will be grouped into beginner and intermediate lessons according to ability and age.
