Requirements
- Must be high school graduate or equivalent
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have the ability to learn and apply new skills in the area of radio communications relative to emergency services
- Must have 6 months to 1 year experience in data entry or other clerical work involving computer use
- Must have good written and communication skills
- Must have a steady/reliable work history
- Must have no felony, criminal domestic violence, or crime of moral turpitude
- Must pass a background investigation to include a clear criminal record
- Must pass pre-employment screenings (drug test, vision, hearing, psychological exam, and polygraph)
Training
Once employed as a Communications Specialist in Training, you will attend the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia for 2 weeks. Certified Communications Specialists from other states and agencies may qualify for the incentive. The probationary period is typically 1 year.
