Greenlink is partnering with United Way of Greenville County to offer a Fare Free Day on Saturday, August 6.
Fare Free Day is designed to coincide with School Tools Day — an opportunity for Greenville County students and their families to access free school supplies, information on afterschool and extracurricular activities, register for produce boxes, food, music, games, and more. School Tools Day will take place August 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Staunton Bridge Community Center at 165 Staunton Bridge Road.
United Way of Greenville County coordinates sponsors, donors and volunteers to collectively support more than 3,000 Greenville County students. For more than 20 years, School Tools has helped families across Greenville County prepare for the first day of school. United Way’s sponsorship of Fare Free Day will allow Greenlink to provide free service for all passengers.
Free bus rides will be offered on all routes from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Those attending School Tools Day can access the event by riding Route 504: Anderson and get on/off the bus at Bus Stop #1379: Harvest Hope Food Bank.
Greenlink passengers can use the Google Transit application at www.ridegreenlink.com to plan their free trips. Customers are also encouraged to download the FindGreenlink app in the Android or iOS app store to get real-time arrival information for the buses.
According to United Way President and CEO Meghan Barp, the partnership between United Way and Greenlink is a great example of how public transportation can increase access to resources for the County’s residents.
“We’re proud to partner with Greenlink on this Fare Free Day to help eliminate transportation barriers for our neighbors," Barp said. "Not every trip requires a personal car, and many families may not have access to a personal car. By covering the cost of a bus ride, we hope to provide families with a hassle-free opportunity to attend our School Tools event and help students start the school year ready to learn.”
