[ARCHIVED] New Public Affairs Manager for GPD

(GREENVILLE)- This morning, Chief Ken Miller introduced Dr. Donald Porter as the new Public Affairs Manager for the Greenville Police Department (GPD) at a ceremony at City Hall. Porter is replacing Sgt. Johnathan Bragg who was recently promoted and is being transferred to Field Operations within the Department.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Porter to our administration staff,” Chief Miller said. “His selection came after an intensive selection process with many impressive and highly-qualified applicants. I am confident his particular set of experiences and successes will continue the excellent communications work Sgt. Bragg has implemented and maintained with the local media and members of our community.” 

Porter is a communications professional with a successful background in broadcast journalism and communications director positions for county school systems in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a Master of Public Administration from Augusta University and an earned Doctor of Education degree with a concentration in Multicultural Education from Georgia Southern University.

In his role as the Public Affairs Manager for the Police Department, Dr. Porter will oversee all public information releases and media relations, as well as leading and developing core community outreach functions.

At the announcement ceremony, Chief Miller presented Sgt. Bragg with a crystal award in appreciation for his many accomplishments his six years as the Public Information Officer for GPD. 

 Sgt. Bragg will provide transitional assistance to Porter in the Public Affairs Office for the next several weeks at which time he will assume his supervisory assignment in Zone 2 of Field Operations.
