[ARCHIVED] St. Patrick's Day

The Greenville Police Department’s traffic division along with other officers will be conducting DUI enforcement activity on St. Patrick’s Day. The activity will consist of safety checkpoints and patrols throughout the city for a zero tolerance campaign. The sobriety checkpoints will be focused mainly in and around the Central Business District on streets such as; Academy Street, Rhett Street, River Street, Richardson Street, Broad Street, McBee Avenue, Main Street, Washington Street, College Street, and Augusta Street.
The checkpoint will be conducted on Tuesday, March 17 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. The checkpoint will focus on identifying drug and alcohol impaired drivers to include juveniles, young adults, and older adults, before they get involved in a collision, thereby increasing the safety for City of Greenville motorists.
The goal of the Greenville Police Department is to make sure that everyone has a great but safe time while celebrating for St. Patrick’s Day. Nearly half of all fatal crashes in South Carolina involve an impaired driver. Too many people are still taking risks that lead to their own death or the loss of an innocent life nearly every day right here in our state.
